Exceptional decor of the hotel was a highlight, great breakfast, excellent staff. Great value for money, we were very happy here

Swimming pool area was not inviting, jacuzzi didn’t work. Of course, it’s visible that hotel and rooms need some renovation to be considered **** hotel.

Nice english style hotel with phantastic views

Friendly staff, nice hotel in English style, clean large room with large bathroom with bathtub! Good breakfast buffet. Beautiful, spacious gardens, very clean indoor pool "on top"! if you have a car, you will find plenty to do in Funchal or the excursion areas. The proximity to the Tropical Garden and the Carreiros do Monte is not a disadvantage either.

Points deducted for the coffee machine. It offers 3 types of coffee, but the milk is probably added from powder, which you can unfortunately taste. The restaurant that is mentioned in some descriptions for dinner is currently not available, probably due to a lack of staff! However, there is an alternative within walking distance in the neighbouring Babosas: Very good food with a nice view of Funchal.

It felt as if we were transported back in time, into a world of nostalgia and forgotten stories.

My stay was pleasant overall. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and the location is excellent – very convenient and close to main attractions. The interior is beautifully furnished, which gave the space a nice feel. Unfortunately, it wasn't as well-maintained as it could be, which slightly lowered the experience. With a bit more attention to upkeep, this could be a fantastic place. I’d rate it 3-4 stars.

There was a noticeable musty smell, as if the place had been closed up for a long time.

Quiet and relaxing stay on the top of the mountain.

Amazing views. Not in the center of Funchal, so very quite area. Right next to famous church of Nosa Senhora do Monte.

Facilities need some renovation and breakfast was good but no fresh coffee.

What was the highlight of Quinta do Monte

Overall, while the hotel had many positive aspects, one issue dampened our experience

The hotel is located in the peaceful Monte area of Funchal, away from the city center but ideally situated close to the Tropical Gardens and the cable car. The location, while a bit further from the main attractions, was perfect for a quieter stay with easy access to nature. The hotel itself is stunning, with beautiful gardens that are a delight to stroll through. The breakfast was superb—plenty of variety and very fresh. The staff were generally helpful, especially when it came to ordering taxis, and we were warmly welcomed with a complimentary drink. The common rooms are elegantly decorated with historical features, creating a charming and classic atmosphere. Our room was spacious with a large window that offered an incredible view of the surroundings.

There were a few things that stood out as unusual and disappointing during our stay. First, we were required to reserve a deposit of 200 Euros, either on a card or in cash, which was fully refundable if no damage occurred. While this is understandable, it's not something we've encountered often at similar hotels. The major issue that tainted our experience was related to housekeeping. After the first cleanup, we found a note asking us to visit the reception. The issue was with a towel that got dirty (dust from hiking). Unfortunately, the hotel assumed we had used it to clean our shoes and wanted to charge us 45 Euros for it. We spent two evenings arguing over this, and eventually, we didn’t have to pay, but the whole situation left us quite disappointed. Then, a minor inconvenience was that the room’s large "French" window lacked a bug net, which could have been useful for ventilation without worrying about insects. Additionally, the room felt somewhat outdated, the hotel has limited parking spaces, and the location is a bit difficult to find.

Very good quality for a fair price.

So glad we have booked stay at Quinta do Monte, beautiful place, rooms were excellent, very clean, all rooms have balcony and the view on lovely garden and chapel, and view on the island and sea; botanical gardens and cablecar are just around the corner; lovely and helpful staff, borrowed kettle to the room with no issues; there are many parking places for your car within hotel area, however hotel is also well connected via bus, two bus stations are 5 min walk from hotel, we have been using buses everyday, ride to the centre is about 20-25 min; biggest surprise were breakfasts which were very very good, choice of eggs, meat, and fresh fruits and veggies, fresh bread and buns, cereals and yogurts, and very good coffee/ hot chocolate from the machine.

The elevator can be quite noisy, but everything else was so good that we were not bothered at all :)

Real 5-star hotel beautiful like castle with good price

This 5-star hotel is a perfect place for the holiday. It's on the mountain side, high place we could see all over the city. But I don't suggest you to drive to there because the road is too narrow for driving except you are a very good driver (actually I broken my car once driving up to there). All the places, service, ambiance, landscape could reach 5-star level. Inside like the castle place, you could even stay all day only in the hotel.

It was a terrific location.

It was a terrific location. Close to the cable car and mountains. The hotel was very clean. Breakfast was included and very tasty. Front desk staff very helpful.

Charming hotel with a large potential to be better managed and maintained.

The hotel has a certain charm, related to the history (the common part in the ancient villa), view from Monte on the ocean and Funchal, the gardens and the large part of the staff.

The hotel equipment is poorly maintained, not renewed, the noise from the lift motor in the neighboring rooms terrible. Pigeons make balcony every morning so dirty, that it cannot be used. Breakfast offering and organization have a lot of room for improvement.

Spacious bedroom and bathroom with a great view. The garden was absolute lovely. Great to have the tropical garden and cable car so close by.

Quiet hotel, beautiful gardens, elegant furnishings, library with books in English to read. Lovely Views. Helpful reception staff. Good value. Very good restaurant 5 mins away in Babosas.

No fresh coffee, only instant. No tea/coffee in bedrooms. No bar staff. No internet in bedrooms. Very steep up and down to nearest cafes and restaurants, bus stops and attractions. 4c colder than Funchal centre, 550m below.

Glad we stayed for the experience - shame about the weather....

Wonderful location, up on the hill overlooking Funchal - a very different vibe from the town itself, and very quiet at night. Perfect for a 2-3 night add-on to a trip when otherwise staying by the sea! Fantastic gardens in the hotel and around.

Lack of public areas to sit and enjoy the view if the weather not good - net curtains in the bar etc. Friendliness of the staff varied - some great, others didn't seem to ever smile.

Location more original than most and still accessible with...

Location more original than most and still accessible with public transports. Better rent a powerful car if you plan on climbing up there !The staff is super nice and helpful. The rooms are big and with a nice view.

Be aware that there is no WiFi in the rooms, quite surprising nowadays ... The parking doors are closed at weird hours, even during the day. Be prepared to wait a bit in front of the gates. The breakfast is not bad but far from exceptional. The gym is weirdly empty, only a couple of machines but no mat or weights ! The swimming pool is quite cold, it might be unpleasant during cloudy days.

A relaxing hotel, and hope to return to Quinta do Monte

The hotel public rooms were furnished beautifully in a country estate style, lovely flower arrangements. The bedroom was comfortable, with excellent views across the garden and beyond. Staff very helpful and friendly. Kiosk coffee shop was pleasant. Hotel gardens maintained to a high standard.

This is not a reflection of the hotel, but more about the locality. There is lack of choice of restaurants in the evening, but this could be as we visited early in season.
